Linework tattoo
Linework is a tattoo built only from lines, with no colour fills and no shading. The image is made of clean outlines of even or varying thickness, often in one continuous stroke. It suits botanical motifs, animals, landscapes and geometry, and looks good in both smaller and larger formats.

What does a linework tattoo look like?
The whole motif is carried by the line: the outline of a flower, the silhouette of an animal, a mountain horizon or a constellation. Sometimes a few dots or light hatching are added, but the areas stay empty. Linework is often combined with geometry or dotwork.
Where on the body does linework work best?
Lines sit well on the forearm, wrist, collarbone, calf or behind the ear. A simple motif fits even a small area, but there must be space between the lines so they don't merge over time. That is why the artist will recommend a minimum size for small designs.
How does linework age?
A clean line lasts for years if it is placed at the right depth and isn't too thin. Very fine lines may spread slightly over time, so for motifs with lots of detail we choose a slightly larger format. Care in the first weeks matters too, as described on our tattoo healing page.
