Tongue piercing

The tongue is a unique part of the body because it is located inside the mouth – the instrument with which we express ourselves, the center of sensuality and the way we receive nutrition. A tongue piercing can be private or public and can be fun on your own or with a partner.

When asked if a tongue piercing is erotic, some people said, "Yes, absolutely!" but an equal number would honestly answer, "Certainly not." None of them would be insincere; they just have different opinions. A tongue piercing is what you make it. For some, it is merely a decoration; for others it is a useful sensual device. Wearing tongue jewelry won't magically turn you into an oral virtuoso, but it will give you an extra tool if you want to use it.

Types of tongue piercing

A tongue piercing can be placed almost anywhere along the tongue, from the tip to the back. The most common is the central piercing, which is located in the middle of the tongue just before the attachment of the lingual frenulum. This position minimizes visibility and keeps the jewelry away from the teeth, ensuring safety and comfort. Other options are horizontal piercings that run across the tongue and multiple piercings that can be placed side by side or behind each other. When choosing a location, it is important to consider the anatomy of the tongue to avoid damage to vessels or nerves.

Suitable jewelry for tongue piercing

  • For tongue piercings, barbells are the most suitable, which should be long enough to allow swelling after the procedure, but not too long, so as not to cause damage to the delicate intraoral structures.

  • Materials such as surgical steel, titanium or approved polymers are ideal because they are hypoallergenic and safe for long-term wear.

  • Smaller balls, such as 3/16 inch, are suitable for the bottom where space is limited, while larger balls or gems can be placed on top.

  • To reduce the risk of tooth and gum damage, softer materials such as inert polymers are a better choice, especially if you have dentures or other oral implants.

Tongue piercing healing and care

The piercing almost always overflows, so we first give a longer piece of jewelry, which we exchange for a shorter one in about 1-2 months. Otherwise, there is a risk of frequent tripping over the jewelry and subsequent traumatization. Sometimes it needs to be replaced several times during healing, so if you feel that the jewelry is becoming too long and is in the way, you can ask for it to be shortened. When exchanging jewelry for a shorter one, the price of the jewelry is paid according to the current price list, the service is free if it is an initial healing process.
