Dotwork tattoo
Dotwork is a technique in which the artist builds the image from thousands of dots. The density of the dots creates shadow, gradient and fill, so the tattoo looks soft and grainy. It is most often used for mandalas, geometry, ornaments and engraving-style shading, usually in black only.

What does a dotwork tattoo look like?
Instead of a smooth shadow you see a grainy gradient: the denser the dots, the darker the area. This gives dotwork a light, almost graphic look. It is often combined with linework, geometric shapes or an ornamental tattoo.
Where on the body does dotwork work best?
It suits the forearm, shoulder, calf, back and sternum. Mandalas and geometry stand out where the pattern can follow the shape of the body, for example on the elbow or knee. On a very small area the dots merge, so we keep small motifs simpler.
Does dotwork hurt more than other tattoos?
