Virgo tattoo: best ideas and meaning

Virgo is an earth sign of order and detail – it notices the things other people walk past. If you were born between 23 August and 22 September, the motifs that fit are the ones where the precision of the line matters. Something literal, or a symbol?

Virgo in tattooing: what each symbol means

The most common is the ear of wheat – an old symbol of this sign, tied to harvest and to what a person has grown by their own work. It is simple, elegant and looks good small in a thin line.

The maiden figure is the harder, more literal choice and only makes sense at a larger size. The glyph – an M with a loop on the end – is the quietest version. For something in between there is the constellation with its bright star Spica.

Styles that suit Virgo

Fine line is the natural fit for the wheat and the glyph – the whole appeal is in the cleanness of the stroke. Botanical work goes a step further with leaves, stems and soft shading.

Black and grey suits figural versions, where you need a face and folds of cloth. Dotwork works well for the constellation – dots instead of lines is the logical choice.

Where to place it

Wheat naturally follows long lines: forearm, down the spine, on the ribs or the calf. The glyph sits on the wrist, ankle or behind the ear. A figural version wants a surface – shoulder blade, thigh or shoulder.
