Sagittarius in tattooing: what each symbol means

The arrow is the simplest and the most common choice – readable, directional and effective at just a few centimetres. The glyph is essentially an arrow with a crossbar, so the two merge into one motif.

A drawn bow adds tension and fills a surface better. The centaur is the most literal version: half human, half horse, bow in hand. It is a demanding figural motif and there is no point doing it small.

Styles that suit Sagittarius

Fine line is the natural choice for the arrow and the glyph, and it is one of the most common first tattoos of all. Geometry uses the same shape, only broken into lines and angles.

Black and grey and realism belong to the centaur and to figural scenes. Illustrative work is the compromise: drawn quality without the demand for photographic accuracy.

Where to place it

An arrow has direction, so it needs a straight line: forearm, down the spine, on the ribs, the collarbone or the side of the foot. The centaur and larger scenes want a surface – thigh, shoulder blade, shoulder.
