Prague tattoo: best ideas and inspiration
A Prague tattoo is for people who grew up here, moved here and stayed, or are taking home a memento of a city where something important happened to them. One decision matters most: Praha or Prague. How would you write it?

Prague lettering: why people choose it
A city can be as strong a memory as a person. Locals wear the name as a statement about home, people who moved here and built a life wear it for the same reason, and visitors wear it because a few days in Prague turned into a turning point. Both kinds of client walk into our studio, and the story is different every time.
The lettering is often paired with another personal detail – the year someone arrived, a date, or the coordinates of a specific spot in the city. That combination turns a word into a memory of one particular moment rather than a general souvenir.
Praha or Prague?
This is the one decision nobody can make for you. The Czech form Praha is what the people who live here actually call the city, and it carries an accent over the letter, so it reads as the original. The English Prague can be read by anyone anywhere and makes sense if the tattoo needs to work outside the country.
Some people add a short phrase, the telephone dialling code, a postcode, or the outline of Charles Bridge. The longer the text, the more the flat surface and the line break matter – with two-word versions we agree in advance where the line will break.
Styles, designs and placement
Fine line black work leads our gallery – script, plain sans-serif and blackletter, which suits Prague because of the architecture. The lettering stands alone or is joined by a small silhouette of the towers, a bridge, a star or a red accent.
We most often tattoo this on the forearm, wrist, collarbone, ribs and ankle. It is small, heals quickly and for visitors it is usually finished in one short session – handy if you are only in town for a few days.
Our artists will show you both language versions in several typefaces so you can see which suits you and the placement you have in mind. We work in English, Czech and Russian.
