Piercing / Lip piercing
Lip piercing
After the ear and nose, lip piercing is one of the most popular in indigenous cultures around the world. For centuries, people have worn ornaments made of horn, bone, gold and other natural materials in lip piercings.
The term "labret" comes from the Latin word "labrum," meaning "lip." Any piercing around the mouth is called a labret, although some use the term only for a piercing placed in the center below the lower lip. There is a maximum distance from the mouth opening that can be pierced because the tissue connects to the gum. Within the constraints of given anatomy and aesthetic preferences, there are many options for piercings around the mouth.
If you wish to switch between rings and bars after healing, discuss this with your piercer as the angle of the piercing and the distance from the edge of your lip need to be considered.

Types of lip piercing
A traditional labret is centered under the lower lip, below the red border (where the pigmented area meets the cheek). It is best to avoid piercing through this junction to prevent migration into the softer tissue of the lip. Labrets can be worn higher or lower, in pairs or multiples, centrally or on the sides. Positioning the piercing so that the jewelry rests at a neutral angle is critical for comfort and safety. All labrets (including the variants described below) must be placed with this principle in mind. Excessive pressure on the teeth or gums - even from the slightest inclination - can cause discomfort and damage. The thin tissue inside the lip contains a large number of blood vessels that are easily visible and should be avoided.
Suitable jewelry for lip piercing
-
Shape: Various types and shapes of jewelry are used for nipple piercing, but only straight jewelry, either barbells or clickers (like a ring, but this half is straight), is always given during the initial piercing. After healing, rings, shields, etc. can be put there.
-
The thickness of the jewelry must not be less than 1.6 mm (14ga) The length when piercing should exceed the length of the nipple by at least 1-2 mm, with larger nipples the swelling is greater, therefore the gap can be larger
-
Material: high-quality titanium or gold can be used for piercing, bioplastic is also harmless, but it is very flexible, which can contribute to changing the shape of the piercing. There is also safe steel, but you probably won't find it in the Czech Republic.
Lip piercing price
The price of a piercing in our salon consists of the price for the piercing application service and the price for the jewelry. Some types of piercings will also require a shortening of the jewelry after healing, where only the price of the new jewelry is paid.

Lip piercing healing and care
The piercing almost always overflows, so we first give a longer piece of jewelry, which we exchange for a shorter one in about 1-2 months. Otherwise, there is a risk of frequent tripping over the jewelry and subsequent traumatization. Sometimes it needs to be replaced several times during healing, so if you feel that the jewelry is becoming too long and is in the way, you can ask for it to be shortened. When exchanging jewelry for a shorter one, the price of the jewelry is paid according to the current price list, the service is free if it is an initial healing process.
