Neo-traditional tattoo

Neo-traditional builds on classic American old school tattooing but adds softer shading, a richer palette and more detail. It keeps the strong black outlines that hold the shape for years. Typical motifs are animal heads, female portraits, flowers and ornaments.

Our work: neo-traditional tattoos

What does a neo-traditional tattoo look like?

The outlines are bold but vary in thickness, and inside them colour gradients, highlights and shadows do the work. Compared with old school the drawing is more realistic and decorative, compared with realism it stays readable even from a distance. The palette tends to be warm and rich: burgundy, gold, emerald.

Where on the body does neo-traditional work best?

Thanks to the strong outlines it also works on smaller areas such as the forearm, calf or shoulder. Larger pieces combine well into a sleeve or across the chest, where they can flow into one another.

Do neo-traditional colours last?

Yes, the black outline makes neo-traditional one of the most durable colour styles. The colours settle slightly over time, but the shape stays readable. To make them last as long as possible, protect the tattoo from the sun as described in caring for a healed tattoo.

How much does a neo-traditional tattoo cost?

The price depends on size and the time the piece takes, not on the style itself. You will find guide prices by size on our tattoo prices page. The artist will give you an exact price once you send your idea, placement and size through the form below.
